Taking the Best Wedding Moments (Wedding Photography Tips)

Have you experienced to take pictures of wedding for your family, relative or friends?

Wedding photography is the most demanding project for photographers. This is also an expensive field in photography because you need a  good camera, lens, accessories and back up photographers to cover this event.

If you wish to try this kind of photography or someone ask you to take pictures of their wedding, this article may help you what are the important part of wedding you need to take a picture.

1. Preparation

Bride is the main character in this event. Take some pictures of the bride during makeup, preparing her gown, chatting with her friends, talking to her parents, and  bride’s mother assisting her daughter to fit her wedding gown. Take picture of  everything that shows preparation. Be creative and take some candid shots and the emotion of every person around. Also, don’t forget  the groom – wedding album will not complete if the groom photos are not good. Take some important  details how he prepare  like wearing tie,wearing shoes, wearing  coat. Take also  a time for portrait shoot for groom and bride.

2. Symbols

Take some photos of wedding ring, aras, bouquet, wedding gown, veil, bride shoes etc. Be creative. It will better to  use macro lens to get closer shot.

3. Emotion

Wedding is full of different emotions. It’s good when you capture these emotions. Joy, laughing, giggling, crying , happy etc. Use telephoto lens like   (70-200mm) to capture. Avoid your subject to feel conscious when you’re taking photos.

 

4. Entourage and Bridal March

This one of the most exciting part of the wedding – the bride marching down the aisle. Everybody is excited to see how beautiful the bride is specially the groom. So never miss the chance to take picture of this scene, take a picture bride facial expression, her gown and how she walks to the altar. Also take picture of the emotion of some guest and  most of all, don’t  forget the emotion of the groom.

Before the entourage will march,  calibrate your camera. Try to take test shot, ask your assistant to stand in the  aisle and try to shoot .  This is not easy  for some  photographer who are first timer to take this kind of shot. You need to master your camera setting and proper lighting.

5. The Vow

Exhange vow of  couple is very emotional part so don’t miss this part and take a great candid shots. This is challenging part of wedding you need to take shoot of their facial expression and the symbols in their hand. So you need a backup shooter  for this part. The main shooter will shoot the facial and the backup will shoot the symbols and guest emotion.

6. First Kiss

The most awaiting part of the ceremony is the couple’s first kiss as married. Some couple kiss for a very short time. If you miss to catch this moment you can ask them politely to kiss again but in a longer time so you can take great photos.

7. Recessional: Exit of couple from church

After the ceremony, don’t just go to reception area to prepare for their shoot or leave the couple in the church. Wait for them to exit the church door and take shots of their guests waiting for them. It’s great when you capture the crowd throw confeiti to the couples. Again you need to take a test shoot before the actual shoot. Set your camera with proper metering and lighting.

8. Reception /Wedding Party

In reception area, before they start to fall in line (if it’s a buffet) or eat the food. Take a shot of the venue, the guests, sponsors and presidential table. Take a picture also of the cake, whine, dove, etc.  Some venue of reception don’t have enough light for you to take agreat photos. So you need  external flash and backup battery.

9.Tossing of the bouquet and the garter

This is the most fun part of the wedding day. Some singles are hiding when the emcess call them to catch  the bouquet. In this part, you need a fast shutter to freeze the motion  or be creative in using slow shutter to get some motion blur.

10.Group shot

You’re lucky if the wedding has a coordinator or emcee to arrange the guest for the group shot, you can easy take a group shot. Or you can ask your assistant to arrange the group. This is also challenging part of the wedding.

When taking a group shoot take 3 shots of every group,Be boss ask them to look only at you as official photographer and last shoot them with wacky poses.

11. The Newly Weds – after the wedding ceremony

Before the wedding day, inform the Bride and Groom that on the day of their wedding you need them a couple of  time for their post-nuptial shoot.

The best time of the pictorial is after the ceremony. Ask them  for 20 mins of photo shoot. During the pictorial tell them to relax and be natural. Use telephoto lens to avoid the couples feel concious to your camera and they can act normal and comfortable.

After the wedding day, don’t forget to thank you the couple and explain when you can deliver their photos.

To make sure you don’t miss some important shot in wedding ceremony, write down some of your shot list a day before the wedding day .Use your creativity to get  great photos and your client will surely love it.
